Council response

Response sent to the lead petitioner 10/8/17
Both Councillors and officers appreciate that the construction works along the A105 have created disruption for a number of local residents and businesses. This is of course regrettable, but looking longer term the Council believes the Cycle Enfield programme will bring significant benefits for the whole of our community. Works at the new Station Road junction are now complete and as such the temporary disruption in this area should now have eased.

That said, the A105 major project is only one aspect of the programme and will be complemented by our Quieter Neighbourhood initiative. These schemes are intended to look at residential areas and consider ways in which ‘rat running’ can be reduced, specifically addressing the issues you have raised. This work will be rolled out over the lifetime of the Cycle Enfield programme. However, on behalf of residents of Radcliffe Road, Cllr Dinah Barry has discussed your road with officers to ensure that it will be included in one of the first areas that is considered.

To help inform this process, officers have already conducted surveys of residents in the area. The next step is for the Council to present a set of measures that will be proposed on a number of roads, Radcliffe Road included. Officers have reviewed the contents of your letter and noted your early feedback on the preferences or otherwise for some example measures. The exact timing of this consultation is yet to be determined but once announced, the Council will ensure a reasonable period is available for residents to consider the proposals and provide their views.

Copies of your letter have been received and reviewed by various Councillors and officers, please accept this response on behalf of Enfield Council.
