Speed cameras in London are the responsibility of The London Safety
Camera Partnership which is made up of the Metropolitan Police and
Transport for London. Enfield Council does not have the power to
install them. Unfortunately there is a very strict criteria in
place for their use and there has to have been a number of fatal
collisions (all with speed being a factor) in the last three years.
Thankfully there have been no fatal collisions in Westpole Avenue,
but that means it would not meet the criteria for a speed
camera.
The Council did have plans in place a few years ago to make all
the roads around Southgate School (including Westpole Avenue) a
20mph zone but the public consultation showed that more than 60% of
residents in the area were against the proposals and so the scheme
was not progressed
