Issue details

KD 3396 The Department for Transport (DfT) is currently working on reforming the Blue Badge scheme.

As part of the reform the DfT have set up the Blue Badge Improvement Service (BBIS), with all local authorities and key stakeholders being part thereof.

Through the reform DfT have decided that from 1stJan 2012 local authorities will no longer be responsible for producing blue badges, this will now be undertaken by Northgate Securities under the BBIS.  Also the DfT have increased the fee that local authorities can charge for a blue badge from £2 up to£10, the fee has not increased since the 70`s.  It is up to local authorities to decide whether they want to increase the cost of the badge.

However, there is a standard fee of £4.60, which each authority will have to pay for the production of the new badges, regardless of whether they increase the fee or not.

The council will need to decide at what level they want to set the fee.
