INTRODUCTIONS - PURPOSE OF MEETING

The Chair to introduce the purpose of the meeting.

Minutes:

The Chair explained the purpose of the meeting was to discuss and decide on the Panel’s work programme for the 2021/22 year.

5.

LOCAL PRIORITIES FOR 2021/22

The Scrutiny Panel will hear from the Cabinet Members and officers outlining priorities and areas of challenge.

 

Cabinet Members and Officers will be asked to leave the meeting at this point.

 

Minutes:

Councillor Rick Jewell explained to the Panel his priorities as the Cabinet Member for Environment for the 2021/22 year, as set out below:

·         Public realm and street scene

-       Looking at the impacts of increased numbers of people working from home

-       Missed bin collections, and improving the collection rate

-       Fly tipping

-       Waste enforcement

·         Recycling

-       Better communications to residents

-       Engagement events

-       Door knocking exercises

-       Education via school education

-       Recycling facilities in estates and flats.

·         Fleet

-       Ongoing programme to move more of the fleet to electronic vehicles

·         Parks and open spaces

-       To be maintained to the highest standard

·         Food risk management

 

6.

PLANNING THE WORK PROGRAMME 2021/22

To agree and prioritise items for the new work programme.

Minutes:

Following discussion, it was agreed that an additional date for the Panel would be requested for January 2021. The Panel agreed the below topics would be submitted to Overview and Scrutiny Committee for approval:

All the Panel agreed it was important to focus on conducting proper scrutiny and felt it was important for officer input and reports for the above items.
