Information about Extraordinary Council

The Full Council Meeting is the central political focus of the whole Council and the co-ordinating body for all elements of the political structure. It sets the overall corporate direction, policy framework and financial limits within which all operations and policies are carried out.

The Council is made up of all 63 elected councillors and meets 6 times a year.

An Extraordinary Council Meeting may be called at any time by the Mayor, by the Council following a resolution to consider issues of importance to the borough, the Chief Executive or by any five councillors if they have signed a requisition presented to the Mayor and the Mayor has refused to call a meeting or had failed to call a meeting within 7 days of the presentation of the requisition.

The business to be carried out at an Extraordinary meeting shall be restricted to those items referred to in the notice convening the meeting, unless the Mayor decides otherwise.
