The London Borough of Enfield holds a freehold
interest in a narrow strip of land which lays adjacent to the
Pearsons department store as a covered walkway, forming part of the
Palace Gardens Shopping Centre. This is currently let to DWE who
also owns majority of the shopping centre.
As part of Pearsons’ plans to revive its struggling trading
performance, its intension is to significantly refurbish the store,
to include enclosure of the LBE owned covered walkway. In order to
facilitate this, LBE will effectively need to grant permission via
a surrender of the existing lease to DWE and regrant a lease back
to Pearsons.
