Minutes: Councillor Caliskan moved, and Councillor Georgiou seconded the following motion inviting the Council to confer the Freedom of the Borough on Christine Hamilton JP.
“That in pursuance of the Local Government Act 1972, The Honorary Freedom of the London Borough of Enfield be conferred upon:
Christine Hamilton JP In recognition of her long and valuable service to the community in the Borough. For her outstanding contribution as a councillor and Mayor and as an expression of the high esteem in which she is held.
Cllrs Cazimoglu, James, and Aksanoglu all spoke in support of the motion.
Councillor Nesil Caliskan “I am delighted to nominate Christine Hamilton for this award and a warm welcome to Christine and the other two nominees to the chamber once again.
It is my honour to nominate Christine Hamilton this evening for the Freeman of the Borough. I have known Christine and her husband Ian since I was a teenager and, in many ways, learnt my political activism from them and saw my political career develop with their guidance.
Above all though, I have observed Christine’s utter commitment to the community that she lives in and I’m so delighted that she’s able to be here in the chamber with her family and her grandchildren who I know she absolutely loves and talks about with such passion and is intrinsically linked to her commitment in Enfield too. First elected to Enfield Council in 2010, Christine served as the Mayor of Enfield in later years, and she also served as a Cabinet Member for Public Health and chaired the council’s inquiry into the 2011 London riots.
In every role that Christine has held, she has demonstrated the very best of serving our community and representing our local residents. She is incredibly hardworking and that has continued throughout, and she will call you out if you do not work hard so she demonstrates what she believes in. Christine is never afraid to speak her mind, represent residents and community groups, she will challenge officers and the administration. I want to take a moment to especially recognise the personal support that Christine has provided not only to me but to many female councillors who decided to run for public office for the London Borough of Enfield.
Christine is a long-standing supporter of Enfield Town Football Club, the UK’s first football club owned by its members, and she became the first female board member and has been part of the club’s recent success which includes a promotion into the national league stats. She loves music, so if she is not with the football club somewhere, she will be listening to live music somewhere in the borough.
Christine’s dedication to public service throughout her career has been remarkable and she has made an exceptional contribution to the London Borough of Enfield. I know that many will recognise this as a small recognition for the contribution that she has made, and I have no doubt that Christine will continue to make further contributions ... view the full minutes text for item 4. |
