SACRE recognises the importance of members’ attendance at meetings to ensure that the essential work of the SACRE is completed effectively. If individual members find it difficult to attend meetings, they may wish to consider whether an alternative member of their community would be able to take on the role.

The Chair will report on any membership changes – resignations and appointments.

·         To note the appointment of Haydar Ulus, Representative of the Alevi Community and Muslim faith to join Group A

·         To note the appointment of Stephen Miller, nominated by the Area Dean as a Church of England representative to join Group B

·         Consideration of members to be removed for non-attendance

Matters Arising from the minutes

Minute 2 (c) To receive an update from Clara Seery, Head of School Standards & Support regarding the Local Authority commitment to the continued support and funding of the SACRE to enable it to effectively undertake its statutory role.


Minute 2 d) to receive confirmation that a member of the Jain faith had been invited to attend the SACRE meeting as an observer


Minute 2 e) (i) to receive confirmation that a representative from the Jumu’ah Salaah Mosque had been invited to attend the SACRE meeting as an observer


Minute 2 e) (ii) to receive confirmation that a member of the Alevi community had been contacted and invited to nominate a representative to join Group A in line with the SACREs aim to have Sunni, Shia and Alevi representatives


Minute 2 g) (i) (ii) Noted that under our current constitution agreed in 2013, SACRE members have a three year term of office. At the end of this period members should refer their appointment to the relevant appointing body, asking them to confirm their re-appointment and forward this to the Clerk of SACRE. Members are asked to confirm their re-appointment or replacement and possible candidates for vacant positions.


Minute 5 C) To note that the Chair’s feedback report was available on the SACRE website.


Minute 5 (I) (II) (III) To receive feedback from members who are willing to undertake visits to schools or whether members of their communities would be willing to visit schools to speak about their faith. The list of individuals would then be updated and uploaded onto the SACRE website.

Minute 7 Collective Worship – Agenda item this meeting


Minute 8 The Big NASACRE Survey – to receive confirmation that following consultation with members, the completed questionnaire had been sent to NASACRE.

SACRE members to agree the dates for 2017 – 2018 calendar of meetings.

Proposed: Spring Term - Tuesday 20 February 2018, Summer Term – Tuesday 19 June 2018, Autumn Term – Tuesday 13 November 2018.




To note that The HMD Trust have announced the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2018: The power of words. The theme for HMD 2018 explores how language has been used in the past and how it is used today.



Interfaith Week

To note that Inter Faith Week will take place Sunday 12 to Sunday 19 November 2017.

As last year, it has been chosen to begin the Week on Remembrance Sunday, encouraging people of different faiths to mark that.  The additional Sunday provides the opportunity for other weekend events to take place.
